Urban Devco is a town planning practice specializing in statutory and spatial planning. We conclude our projects with GIS Map reflections.
Statutory Planning: We operate mainly within the jurisdiction area of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan area, whilst we further specialize in Mogale City inclusive of Lanseria and the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site (COH WHS). Other areas of involvement include the Rand West-, Maruleng Municipal areas, as well as the Ekhuruleni- and Tshwane Metropolitan areas.
Urban Devco also serves international clients from the UK, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada and Australia who own and/or develop land in South Africa.
Spatial Planning: Urban Devco is capacitated to work in any province in South Africa with regard to spatial planning whilst we focus in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northwest Province and the Free State.
Who We Are
Manda Smit (B/8081/1999)
Manda holds a Magister Artium in Urban Geography and a higher diploma in Administrative and Municipal Law from the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), now the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Manda is the founding and managing member of Urban Devco and operates as an urban geographer and urban planner. Manda started her career as a market researcher at Urban Studies at RAU, followed by a town planning career in local government for 15 years of which 5 years as Chief Town Planner of the Krugersdorp Transitional Local Council. She has vast experience in all aspects of town planning with her main focus on strategic development advice and land use planning, inclusive of township applications, tribunals and appeal cases. Manda has 35 years of experience and celebrates 21 years in business this year.
Stewart Mareere (C/8818/2018)
Stewart obtained a BSc Honours in Rural and Urban Planning at the University of Zimbabwe in 2013. He completed two design courses at the University of Cape Town and is presently studying towards his Masters in Urban Studies in the field of Urban Management at the University of the Witwatersrand. Stewart has seven years experience in land use planning, township layouts and the application of town planning law in Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa.
Andrew joined the company in 2018 as a well experienced town planner, after 22 years in the employ of Mogale City. He focuses on land use applications in the Mogale City and Rand West municipal areas. Andrew also acts as facilitator on behalf of the company with municipalities, provincial and government departments.
Dean Gibb (Pr Pln. A/1807/2013)
Dean obtained a Baccalaureus Artium et Scientiae in Urban and Regional Planning at the North West University in 2009. Dean has 13 years experience of which 2 years were at local government level. He dealt with township establishment and large scale urban development projects, including Provincial Government housing projects. Dean has also worked in the United Arabian Emirates, Dubai in 2013, as a project manager.
Maartin Friedrich (Pr Pln. A/117/2009)
Maartin obtained a B Art et Science (Planning) degree at the North West University in 1992. Maartin was employed in both provincial and local government and he practices in the private sector since 2008. Maartin has 27 years of experience. His experience and specialities encapsulate integrated development planning, spatial planning, land use management approaches and schemes, pre-feasibility studies and township layout planning.
Willem Badenhorst (PGP 1411)
Willem obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Town and Regional Planning at the University of Pretoria in 1991. He started his career in the GIS field at the CSIR in 1995. He practised since 2005 as a professional GIS practitioner and has extensive experience across the country.
